Abstract

This article offers a critical discourse analysis of 1st Timothy 6:10, exploring the "love of money" within the socio-economic context of Nigeria. By elucidating and analysing the interpretation, application and implications of this biblical passage, the study reveals how religious views on wealth influence economic behaviours and ethical standards in Nigeria. It investigates the impact of these interpretations on issues such as economic disparity, materialism, ostentatious living, quest for wealth and corruption. This analysis provides a nuanced understanding of how religious discourse shapes socio-economic practices and moral values in Nigerian society, highlighting the complex interaction between faith and economic realities.
