A Critical Analysis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their Implementation in Least Developed Countries (LDCs)

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity for all The 17 SDGs and their 169 targets are designed to be achieved by 2030, with a focus on leaving no one behind. However, the implementation of the SDGs in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) has been slow and challenging. This article provides a critical analysis of the SDGs and their implementation in LDCs, highlighting the challenges, opportunities and recommendations for improvement. The argument of this study is that while the SDG’s provide a framework for sustainable development, their implementation in LDCs requires a more nuanced and context-specific approach that takes into account the unique challenges and opportunities facing these countries. This article draws on a range of sources, including academic literature, policy reports and data from international organizations.
